In Lesson 2.2 the new time signatures of 2/2, 3/2, 4/2 and 3/8 were introduced. With these, some new rules about the grouping of notes needs to be observed.
1.When there is a minim beat - basically group quavers together that belong to the same minim beat. In this example, notice the quavers in the second bar are NOT ALL joined together. Only those that belong to the same minim beat.
2. Semiquavers should still be grouped just a crotchet's worth at a time. Here, each beamed group of 4 semiquavers make just one crotchet beat, even though all eight are part of the same minim beat.
3. Replace any tied minims by semibreves.
4. In 3/8 time group together all consecutive quavers and semiquavers. It doesn't matter if they are all quavers, all semiquavers or a mixture of both.
