Gigue à l'Angloise
G. P. Telemann
ABRSM Grade 2 Piano 2019 - 2020.
A Gigue is a lively dance and this piece will need to go quite fast. Try building up the tempo gradually using a metronome.
The dynamics and slurs given in the ABRSM edition are editorial suggestions only and the above video has a few variations on what has been suggested. For example, bars 5-8 are played at a lesser dynamic to the opening for an echo effect. For this period of music, any changes in dynamics are usually stepped or terraced, meaning that the changes are sudden, not gradual.
Another change in the above performance is to use the two note slur idea from the opening at the end of bar 7 and throughout bar 15, differing from the three note slur written. Make sure the last note of any slurred group is lifted.
