The degree of the scale is very simply the number of the note counting up from the 1st note. So in G major for example the degrees of the scale are as shown below.

Intervals are just as easy. An interval is the gap / distance between two notes. There are two kinds of interval.

  • Harmonic intervals : The interval between 2 notes that are played at the same time.

  • Melodic intervals: The interval between 2 notes played one after the other.

In the scale of G major again the interval between G and B is a "third". Notice we use the word "third" rather than just the number "three".
