Ja-Da
Bob Carleton
ABRSM Grade 2 Piano 2019 - 2020.
Attention to dynamics and articulation are essential for a good mark in this piece. Here are a few things to take note of:
- Bar 1 - The decrescendo down from forte
- Bar 2 - The accent on the second beat of the bar. This note should be firmer than the one that follows it, but still within the context of mezzo forte.
- Bar 8 - Notice the rhythm of the main theme is slightly different here compared to other occurrences. The second note should be short and lifted so that there is a clear rest on the the second beat. This is in contrast to the long second note usually played with this figure (e.g. bars 3, 4 & 7).
- Bar 10 - Watch the lengths of notes, the semibreves should be held as you change the minims in the middle.
- Bar 11 - The marking p cheekily indicates a very light staccato. The following re-occurrences of this 4 crotchet figure should then be more forceful with each time (bars 13 & 19).
- Bars 21 & 22 - Be careful do observe the decrescendo and crescendo again and watch the staccato LH note in the last bar contrasts with the legato RH at this point.
