As lockdown measure are easing, the ABRSM has recently announced that exam bookings will be open for Private Visits from the 6th of July in the UK

Private visits are different from public venues in that they are organised by an individual often in a school setting for example, where there can be offered a minimum of three hours of examinations for all the candidates entered. Some teachers also have many students taking exams - enough to fill three hours worth. However, in the current pandemic climate - private visits cannot be done in people's homes but only in approved centres that can accommodate  social distancing rules.

Public exams will only be starting in the UK for session 3, that is from September.

Like everything else with the new normal, these exams will need to operated under strict hygiene rules such as one way systems through the building to avoid congestion, parents waiting in the cars, rather than in the waiting room, pianos being wiped down with sanitizer after each user, to the extent that it would be better to have two pianos, one for the examiner and one for the candidate.

There are  instructions for visit organizers that go into more detail HERE but in summary, it will change much like the experience of going to the supermarket has changed since the pandemic.

As always, I'll keep you updated as soon as news emerges, so please subscribe below to be the first to hear new posts that relate to your music exams
